The Destruction of the Theological Foundation (pt 1)

As You look around you it has become evident that there is a war. A war that has been waged wholesale against the Judeo-Christian Morals, Standards and Spirituality upon which our nation was founded. In Matthew 13:25 we read: “But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way…” What we see today is in large part the work of the enemy, Satan and his wicked children, in which he was systematically planting the seeds of untruth in our historical past even during and amidst some of the greatest periods of revival.

The story for us begins, not in the 1960’s, where most of today’s preachers want to place the majority of the blame, but far farther into the past. This planting of the tares is seen even in the outgrowth of the Great Reformation which was begun by Martin Luther as he stood and opposed the wickedness of the Roman Catholic Church in 1517. The enemy was hard at work as the seeds of truth were being planted during the Great Awakening in England under the ministries of such men as Charles and John Wesley, in Scotland under John Knox and as the Awakening spread to America in 1728 under the influence of Jonathon Edwards (North Hampton, MA), and in 1734 with George Whitfield (The Atlantic sea board) and others.

Amazingly enough, it is clearly documented that prior to this massive revival, our own American colonies were in a state of utter debauchery and wanton wickedness, not unlike what we see our society today. For even in the midst of the original desire of some for religious freedom, the enemies seeds of greed, lack of gospel preaching and an utter contempt for spiritual matters had been planted and had quickly destroyed the spiritual foundations of the pilgrim’s descendants. Yet, in a matter of only forty years of solid Bible preaching, evangelism and teaching, a new group of men flourished onto the scene and took the reigns of leadership. These were men of not worldly values and morality, but Biblical values and Morality. They stood and opposed not only the tyranny of mother England but also the tyranny of spiritual darkness. The rest is as we may say history.

But even in the midst of this massive revival and explosion of evangelistic and missionary zeal, there arose in the learned institutions on both shores of the Atlantic, a massive rebellion against this new awakening of spiritual interest. And thus, as the Great Awakening took hold and began to age, a well-evangelized community of believers, became once—more complacent and began again to fail to carefully watch the enemy. Thus he sneaked in unaware and planted the seeds of destruction in the midst of the fields of spiritual prosperity.

Today we have come full circle and once again we are at the brink of destruction, where the tares that the enemy have sown have become so entwined with the truth that in many cases the tares have all but choked the truth entirely to death. And even where they have not destroyed the truth, they are so convincing that most lay hold of them and place their faith and hopes in them, failing to realize that there is no true nourishment there, but in the end, only futility.

The fault for all of this may be placed in many places, people or failures. In reality, however, it is the servants of the Master that have failed to keep careful watch on the field of truth and on the movements of the enemy. No one that campaigns a good war forgets or ignores the movements of the enemy, yet today, men are preaching that we must not concern ourselves with the enemy nor entangle ourselves with him. To them and those who follow their creed I say, rubbish and shame on you.

Let the soldier of Jesus Christ stand and as admonished in 2 Timothy 2:3 “Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.^[1]” and in 1 Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.^[2]” Please note the words that the Holy Spirit inspired, words like soldier, endure, fight, called and professed before many witnesses. It is the obligation of the believer to solemnly, boldly and expediently express God’s truth in every arena. We need to ignore the mandates of those such as the EEOC, The liberal press and even Christian brethren that try to gag us when it concerns the truth of God’s Word in the public arena.

We are given no such commandment as to; “…keep the Truth of the Church separate from the State.” Remember the Words of Jesus in Matthew 10:17-20 “But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; ¹⁸And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles. ¹⁹But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak. ²⁰For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you^[3]”

Thus, the reality is that the responsibility to declare the truth in every arena, the private and the public, lies with every believer. As we have declared already, the foundation for that truth is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Fact that Jesus is the Righteousness of God and our only hope to be Righteous before God the Father. It is not our responsibility specifically to preserve the truth (as some would have us to believe, today and have succeeded in merely causing division and chaos in the body of Christ). We should seek to speak the Preserved Truth rather than seek to preserve the Truth. We, rather, are specifically commanded obey and proclaim the truth. God has promised to forever settle and preserve His Word. We, therefore, are mandated in Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15 and Acts 1:8 to preach and teach it unto every creature.

Let us Read Romans 1:18-24:

¹⁸For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

¹⁹Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. ²⁰For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: ²¹Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. ²²Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, ²³And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. ²⁴Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:^[4]

There are Six Major Foundations of Truth that have been choked and corrupted by the Enemy’s tares: Romans 1:18-25 describes the Destruction the First three: The Theological Foundation, The Anthropological Foundation and the Scientific Foundation and its outcome. Romans 18:26-28 describes the destruction of the fourth: The Sociological Foundation and its outcome.
